General Anil Chauhan, India's Chief of Defence Staff, engaged in comprehensive talks with Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, the Chief of Defence Force of Maldives, on Saturday. The meeting aimed at resetting military relations strained since President Mohamed Muizzu took office in November last year.

The high-level dialogue took place a day after the fifth round of defence discussions between India and the Maldives, where both sides resolved to speed up the implementation of ongoing defence projects. Officials noted a strong focus on boosting regional security and enhancing bilateral training programs.

Maritime security cooperation was a central topic of discussion. The bilateral relationship, particularly in defence and security, had previously strengthened under the former Maldivian administration but faced challenges when President Muizzu, known for his pro-China stance, demanded the withdrawal of Indian military personnel soon after his inauguration.
