The women's wing of the Congress party kicked off the 'Kharche Pe Charcha' campaign in Maharashtra on Friday, aimed at highlighting the issue of rising inflation. The campaign, announced by President Alka Lamba, seeks to 'awaken' the state government to the financial challenges faced by ordinary families.

Lamba accused the Mahayuti government of exploiting the 'Ladki Bahin Yojana,' a financial assistance scheme for women, for electoral gains. She alleged the scheme is riddled with corruption and launched just before the upcoming assembly elections. 'The prices of essentials like petrol, diesel, gas, and groceries have skyrocketed, disrupting the financial stability of households,' she added.

The 'Charcha' campaign, inaugurated by banging empty plates in Mumbai's Versova and Chembur assembly constituencies, will extend across all 288 constituencies in the state. Lamba emphasized that the Congress had previously promised financial support for women before the Lok Sabha polls, unlike the BJP's alleged deceitful election tactics. Mumbai Congress president Varsha Gaikwad reiterated the dual issues of inflation and women's safety, criticizing the BJP government for failing to protect women.
