The BJP and AAP were locked in a neck-to-neck battle as both parties secured five zones each in the closely contested MCD zonal ward committee polls conducted on Wednesday. Councillors voted to elect chairmen, deputy chairmen for nine of the 12 zonal-level ward committees, and one member each for the MCD's highest decision-making body, the standing committee.

Voting was not conducted in Karol Bagh, City SP, and Keshav Puram zones as neither BJP nor AAP fielded candidates. In the Civil Lines Zone, BJP won all three posts by a slim margin of one vote each, showcasing intense competition against AAP.

The elections, marking the first since the 2022 unification of the MCD, were held through secret ballots as per the Delhi Municipal Corporation Regulations, 1958. Heavy security ensured smooth proceedings, while significant political figures from both parties shared their optimistic views on the outcomes and the future developments in the capital.
