Doug Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris and the first Jewish person married to a nationally elected US leader, voiced his heartbreak following the killing of American Hersh Goldberg-Polin and five other Israeli hostages by Hamas.
Speaking at a vigil for the hostages at his Washington synagogue, Emhoff stated, "I haven't been able to stop thinking about Hersh and his parents, or about the five others and their families." He emphasized the shared grief he and Harris feel, especially after their recent conversation with Goldberg-Polin's parents, who are still determined to help other hostages despite their loss.
Emhoff highlighted the ongoing efforts by Harris and President Joe Biden to negotiate a ceasefire and secure the hostages' release, underscoring the urgency of the situation and urging continuous support from the Jewish community.
