Raising fresh doubts over the impending MCD ward committee elections, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has refused to appoint presiding officers, labeling the process as undemocratic.
This decision comes just a day before the planned September 4 elections, which now face inevitable postponement. Without presiding officers, polling cannot proceed.
Mayor Oberoi has instructed MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar to restart the election procedure and allow at least a week for nominations. She emphasized that this time is crucial for maintaining a fair democratic process. This delay, however, has already led to disruptions in civic services and sparked accusations from the opposition of deliberate postponement.
