Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has criticized the Mahayuti government following the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Sindhudurg. Chavan laid the blame on the administration, stating that undue pressure to complete the statue within three months was exerted due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plans to inaugurate it on December 3. 'The administration is completely responsible for the incident,' Chavan told ANI. 'The sculptor suggested it would take three years, yet they were forced to expedite the work for the PM's inauguration.'

Expressing his doubts on the inquiry committee formed to investigate the incident, Chavan emphasized that he did not believe it would be effective, suggesting it might only aim to protect the government. 'The people of Maharashtra are deeply hurt by this incident. Action should be taken against those responsible. The true inquiry will only occur once a new state government is in place,' he asserted.

Further criticizing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Chavan accused him of attempting to shield himself and demotivate others by claiming his party had already completed its investigation and allocated responsibility. 'The Chief Minister is working to demotivate the soldier and save his own skin,' Chavan added. Meanwhile, Shinde denounced the incident and called for opposition leaders to refrain from politicizing it, promising swift and strict action against those at fault. During a visit to Palghar, Prime Minister Modi apologized to the people and expressed sorrow over the collapse of the statue, which had been unveiled just last year during Navy Day celebrations.
