Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday criticized the opposition, accusing them of a new tendency to hinder the speeches of Indigenous Hindu MLAs in the Assembly.

During the discussion of The Assam Land and Revenue Regulation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024, Sarma strongly defended BJP MLA Bhuban Pegu, who faced interruptions from opposition members while addressing the House.

Sarma referred to the scrutiny of Hindu-Muslim issues as unavoidable and emphasized that the bill is crucial for the survival of the Assamese community. After his statements, Congress MLAs staged a walkout in protest.
