Brazil's Supreme Court Pressures Elon Musk Over Social Media Policies
A Brazilian Supreme Court justice has given Elon Musk 24 hours to appoint a legal representative for X in Brazil or face suspension. The demand comes after X stated it would close operations in Brazil due to 'censorship orders.' The court's action points to ongoing tensions between Musk and Brazilian authorities.
A Brazilian Supreme Court justice has ordered Elon Musk to designate a legal representative for his social media platform X in Brazil within 24 hours. Failure to comply will result in the suspension of the platform in the country.
This development follows X's announcement to cease operations and dismiss its staff in Brazil earlier this month, a move the company attributed to 'censorship orders' from Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
Justice Moraes emphasized that under Brazilian law, companies must adhere to local legislative requirements and protect user privacy. The Supreme Court even posted its decision on X, tagging Musk. Musk responded sharply, accusing Moraes of breaking the laws he is supposed to uphold.
