Ex-Official Convicted in Reporter Murder Case: Highlighting Threats to Journalism

A Las Vegas jury has convicted Robert Telles, a former Clark County public administrator, of murdering investigative journalist Jeff German, highlighting the increasing dangers faced by reporters in the U.S.

Following a ten-hour deliberation, Telles was found guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors argued that Telles, angered by German's critical reporting, stabbed the 69-year-old journalist outside his home in September 2022.

German's work had exposed misconduct in Telles' office, leading to his defeat in a Democratic primary. Evidence against Telles included his DNA on German's nails and video footage of the crime scene. Telles now faces the possibility of life imprisonment without parole.
