Assam's opposition parties, led by the United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA), lodged a first information report (FIR) against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday. They accuse the CM of promoting enmity based on religion and race, thereby inciting communal tension.
General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi of the UOFA filed the complaint at the Dispur police station, accompanied by leaders from several other political parties. Despite the FIR, police have not yet registered a case.
The UOFA's complaint claims Sarma has a history of making provocative statements against specific communities. Recent events, including alleged gang-rape and community-targeted comments, have intensified tensions. The opposition urges immediate action against Sarma to prevent potential riots.
