The BJP has intensified its demands for the release of students detained during a march towards the Nabanna state secretariat on Tuesday. The protest aimed at seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, amid allegations of rape and murder of a doctor.

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar, who spearheaded a subsequent rally to Lalbazar police headquarters, was barred from meeting the Police Commissioner by security forces. In response, Majumdar and other leaders staged a sit-in at the barricaded location.

According to a local party leader, Majumdar insisted on the unconditional release of students arrested from various protest points. The next steps will be determined after receiving a response from Lalbazar, he added. The police resorted to batons, tear gas, and water cannons to control the crowds as they targeted Nabanna. The protest originated from multiple locations, spearheaded by the unregistered students' body, Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj, and the Sangrami Joutha Mancha, representing state government employees.
