Union Minister of State and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended on Tuesday.
Initially, three candidates had filed nominations for the Rajya Sabha bye-elections. However, the nomination paper of independent candidate Babita Wadhwani was cancelled during scrutiny on August 22. BJP's dummy candidate Sunil Kothari subsequently withdrew his nomination, leaving Bittu as the sole candidate.
Rajasthan Legislative Assembly principal secretary and election officer Mahavir Prasad Sharma handed the election certificate to Yogendra Singh Tanwar, Bittu's authorized election agent, on Tuesday. The opposition Congress decided not to field a candidate, and the by-election followed Congress's KC Venugopal's resignation from the Rajya Sabha after his election to the Lok Sabha. Bittu's term will continue until June 21, 2026, with the BJP and Congress each holding five out of the ten Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan.
