France's Far-Right Blocks Leftist PM in Political Deadlock

France's political landscape is embroiled in turmoil as far-right leaders from the National Rally declared on Monday their intent to block any prime ministerial candidate from the leftist New Popular Front, further complicating President Emmanuel Macron's efforts to resolve the country's political deadlock.

Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella, key figures in the National Rally, met with Macron to discuss solutions to the crisis resulting from July's inconclusive snap election. Bardella described the New Popular Front, an alliance comprising various leftist parties, as a threat to national stability.

Amidst these tensions, Macron is expected to name a new prime minister by the week's end, though legislative approval remains uncertain. The New Popular Front, having secured the most votes, insists on its candidate, Lucie Castets, for the position. Macron, however, leans towards a centrist or center-right nominee, with figures like Xavier Bertrand and Bernard Cazeneuve in consideration.
