Early Sunday, Israel launched airstrikes inside Lebanon, targeting positions held by the Shiite militia Hezbollah, according to the Israeli military.
In an official statement, the military accused Hezbollah of preparing to release missiles and rockets toward Israeli land. 'In a self-defense act to remove these threats, the (Israeli military) is striking terror targets in Lebanon, from which Hezbollah was planning to launch their attacks on Israeli civilians,' said Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson for the military.
Hezbollah is expected to soon fire rockets, possibly missiles, and drones into Israel,' Hagari warned. Following the announcement, sirens were heard in northern Israel, and social media posts depicted what seemed to be strikes in southern Lebanon.
