The 10th edition of the annual bilateral exercise 'Mitra Shakti' between the militaries of India and Sri Lanka, designed to boost their interoperability and mutual understanding, has wrapped up, the Indian High Commission stated on Saturday.

The two-week-long exercises commenced on August 12 at the Army Training School in Maduru Oya, Sri Lanka. The drills are aimed at enhancing the interoperability and mutual understanding between their armed forces, fostering a closer defense relationship rooted in professional respect, personal bonds, and intense training interaction. The exercise aims to build proficiency in tackling transnational terrorism, executing joint tactical operations, and combat skills while providing a platform for sharing experiences and best practices.

Reflecting the success of past editions, 'Mitra Shakti' was recently upgraded from a combined arms concept to a bi-service level engagement, showcasing both nations' commitment to intensifying defense cooperation against terrorism and other shared threats. Conducted in alignment with India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and its vision of 'Security and Growth for all in the Region (SAGAR),' these exercises underscore a significant step in regional security initiatives.
