Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi emphasized the importance of including Hindu stakeholders in the discussions by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed to review the Waqf Bill. Speaking to ANI, Naqvi expressed his support for the committee's inaugural meeting.

The former Union Minister welcomed the committee's initial proceedings, describing the JPC's work as moving in a 'very positive direction.' Naqvi stressed that the scrutiny of systems like Waqf is crucial, especially when constitutional commitments are at stake. He stated that no one should object if the committee addresses 'unconstitutional chaos' within the Waqf system and brings it under constitutional compliance.

Naqvi highlighted that several Waqf board decisions over the years have raised questions, leading to confusion and conflicts. He expressed hope that the committee's deliberations would bring clarity and justice. 'There should be thorough scrutiny, a post-mortem of past decisions, and discussions with all stakeholders,' Naqvi added.

Naqvi urged the JPC to recognize that stakeholders are not just from the Muslim community but include many Hindus, especially those displaced during the Partition. He emphasized that their voices should also be heard, noting that many displaced Hindus in India still lack ownership rights over their properties. Naqvi called on the JPC to address their grievances to ensure justice for all communities.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, seeks to rename the Waqf Act, 1995, and introduce significant changes, including the clear definition of 'Waqf' and reforms in the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards. The bill, introduced by Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, aims for a more inclusive and transparent Waqf management system.
