Kamala Harris has formally accepted the Democratic Party's nomination to face off against Republican rival Donald Trump in the November presidential election.
Taking the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Harris made history as the first Indian-American and Black woman to be nominated on a major presidential ticket in the United States. She is now the second woman to ever receive this nomination for the Democratic Party.
In her acceptance speech, Harris highlighted her diverse heritage, emphasizing her commitment to representing all Americans regardless of party, race, gender, or background. 'On behalf of people like the ones I grew up with, who chase their dreams and look out for one another, I accept your nomination,' she stated.
Harris, 59, whose mother is Indian and father Jamaican, said she is no stranger to unlikely journeys and expressed her readiness to break one of the highest glass ceilings left for women in the U.S.
