More than 23 lakh voters are set to cast their ballots in 24 constituencies during the first phase of the three-phased assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18, officials announced on Thursday.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, the voter base includes 23.27 lakh eligible participants, featuring 1.23 lakh first-time voters. The polls will cover 24 assembly constituencies in seven districts.

Pandurang K Pole highlighted the youth's contribution to democracy, noting that 5.66 lakh voters are aged between 18-29 years, with 1,23,922 of them voting for the first time. The first phase will also see participation from 28,310 people with disabilities and 15,774 seniors aged above 85 years.
