Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday called for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to investigate the allegations made by short seller Hindenburg Research against Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chairperson Madhabi Buch and the Gautam Adani group.
Leading a protest outside the Enforcement Directorate office in south Mumbai, Lok Sabha MP Gaikwad criticized the central probe agency. She accused the agency of selectively targeting opposition leaders while ignoring the SEBI-Adani case.
Gaikwad questioned why Buch had not resigned as SEBI chief amidst the allegations. Both Buch and her husband have denied the claims as baseless, asserting their finances are transparent. The Adani Group also termed Hindenburg Research's allegations as malicious, stating it has no commercial ties with Buch or her husband.
