Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday voiced serious concern regarding the flood situation resulting from heavy rainfall in Tripura. He urged the central and state governments to promptly initiate relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Kharge also appealed to Congress leaders and workers to extend all possible aid to those in distress.

'Deeply concerned about the flood situation caused by heavy rainfall in Tripura where many have lost their lives, and about 5,600 families have sought refuge in relief camps. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Compensation must be provided at the earliest,' Kharge stated in a social media post.

The central and state governments must implement immediate relief and rehabilitation measures, he stressed.

'More NDRF and SDRF teams need to be deployed in the flood-affected areas. Urgent provision of food and medical help is required. I appeal to Congress leaders and workers to offer all possible assistance to those in distress,' the Congress chief urged.

At least seven individuals, including three from a single family, lost their lives while two others went missing after landslides induced by incessant rains occurred in multiple locations in Tripura, a senior official revealed on Tuesday.

South Tripura district reported five fatalities, while Gomati and Khowai districts each recorded one casualty, disclosed Revenue Department Secretary Brijesh Pandey. Heavy rain since Sunday has waterlogged several areas of the state.
