In a significant diplomatic move, India has decided to upgrade its relations with Malaysia to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The announcement came during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's maiden official visit to India, where he was warmly welcomed by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Murmu emphasized the shared values of democracy, multiculturalism, and mutual respect that have guided India-Malaysia relations. She announced that both nations would work towards an action-oriented roadmap covering various sectors of cooperation.
Notably, Malaysia is seen as a key partner for India in the ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific vision. Murmu also extended her best wishes for Malaysia's upcoming role as Chair of ASEAN in 2025, reiterating India's commitment to shared regional objectives.
