Former Autonomy Executive Stephen Chamberlain Dies After Road Accident

Stephen Chamberlain, once co-defendant with Mike Lynch in the U.S. fraud trial over the sale of Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard, has passed away following a road accident that left him critically injured, his lawyer announced on Monday.

Chamberlain, previously Autonomy's vice president of finance alongside CEO Lynch, was hit by a car on Saturday morning in Cambridgeshire and placed on life support, according to a source familiar with the matter. Gary Lincenberg, Chamberlain's lawyer, described him as a 'dear client and friend' and confirmed that he had died after being 'fatally struck' by the vehicle while running.

Mike Lynch was reported missing after a luxury yacht was sunk by a violent storm off the coast of Sicily early Monday, contributing to the grim news. Both men had faced charges of fraud and conspiracy, accused of inflating Autonomy's value before its sale, but were acquitted of all charges in June.

Following his tenure at Autonomy, Chamberlain served as the chief operating officer at cybersecurity firm Darktrace and volunteered as finance director for Cambridge United soccer club. 'He was a courageous man with unparalleled integrity, and we deeply miss him,' Lincenberg said. Cambridgeshire Police have appealed for witnesses regarding the collision in Stretham. There is no update on the pedestrian's condition, a police spokesperson said on Monday.
