Israeli Leaders Condemn Deadly Settler Rampage in West Bank
Israeli leaders condemned a violent settler rampage in the West Bank village of Jit, which left one Palestinian dead and others injured. Prime Minister Netanyahu called for prosecution of those responsible, as settler violence has increased since the Israel-Hamas war. The U.S. and other international entities also condemned the attack.
Israeli leaders on Friday condemned a deadly settler rampage in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, a rare denunciation of growing settler violence since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.
The rampage in the village of Jit, near Nablus, killed one Palestinian and injured others. Residents reported that masked settlers fired live ammunition and burned homes and cars, with video showing flames engulfing the village. Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to prosecute those responsible and called for settlers to stand down.
The attack diverged from usual settler violence denunciations by Israeli leaders, prompting a strong rebuke from the United States and international entities who view settlement expansions as illegal. The UN noted a spike in settler attacks since the war began, while residents of Jit struggled to defend themselves in the absence of immediate military assistance.
