Chinese Mother Seeks Justice After Son Falls Victim to Job Scam Surgery
A Chinese mother appeared on television to seek justice for her disabled son after he was tricked into undergoing breast augmentation surgery while job hunting. Scams targeting youth are rising due to China's faltering economy, with many young graduates being drawn into scam syndicates either as victims or perpetrators.
A Chinese mother is seeking justice for her 19-year-old intellectually disabled son, who was scammed into undergoing breast augmentation surgery while job hunting. The incident has sparked widespread outrage.
The teenager, desperate for a job, was misled by a cosmetic surgery clinic in Wuhan. He was told the surgery would boost his earnings through livestreaming and even convinced to borrow 30,000 yuan ($4,180) for the procedure. Despite the mother managing to cancel the loan with help from a television station and lawyers, the surgery had already been done.
Scams targeting job seekers are on the rise in China, worsened by the country's economic struggles. Last year, youth unemployment hit a record high of 21.3%, and many young graduates and students are being ensnared in similar fraudulent schemes. Authorities have noted an increase in scam-related prosecutions among youths, further complicating the employment crisis.
