New York Mayor Eric Adams Faces Federal Subpoenas Amid Corruption Probe

New York Mayor Eric Adams is the focus of fresh federal grand jury subpoenas related to a lengthy corruption investigation, according to the New York Times. The report cites four anonymous sources with direct knowledge of the situation.

Federal investigators are examining whether Adams' 2021 campaign team colluded with a Brooklyn construction company and the Turkish government to illegally obtain foreign donations. The newly issued subpoenas were served to Adams, his staff, and his campaign committee, demanding a wide array of materials including text messages and documents.

Adams' spokesperson Fabien Levy confirmed that the mayor intends to cooperate fully with the investigation. The FBI has declined to comment on the matter. Previous FBI actions included confiscating Adams' electronic devices and raiding his aides' and fundraisers' properties. The probe has partly centered on whether Adams and his team received illegal donations and whether his administration intervened with NYC fire officials regarding a new Turkish consulate in Manhattan.

Politically, this investigation comes at a challenging time for Adams ahead of next year's Democratic primary, where he faces competition.
