Deadly Airstrike Hits Gaza School-Shelter, Casualties Exceed 60
An Israeli airstrike on a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City killed over 60 people and injured 47. This strike comes amid the 10-month conflict between Israel and Hamas. The tragedy has intensified international efforts to broker a cease-fire, as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens.
An Israeli airstrike early Saturday hit a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City, killing more than 60 people and injuring 47, according to Palestinian health authorities. It marks one of the deadliest strikes in the 10-month war between Israel and Hamas.
The Israeli military confirmed the strike, claiming without evidence that a Hamas command center was inside the school. The Tabeen school has been a refuge for Gaza residents displaced by the conflict.
As international mediators from the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt renew efforts for a cease-fire, over 39,600 Palestinians have been killed, and 91,700 wounded, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The war began with a deadly Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which resulted in 1,200 Israeli deaths and 250 abductions.
