Bhattacharjee, who had been suffering from old age-related ailments, passed away at his residence in Kolkata. CPI(M) state secretary Mohd Salim confirmed his death.

In her message, Banerjee conveyed sincere condolences to Bhattacharjee's family and his followers within the CPI(M) party, highlighting her long-standing acquaintance with him.
