Hundreds of youths took to the streets in Kolkata on Tuesday, initiating the 'Nabanna Abhijan' rally. Their primary demand: the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following the rape and murder of a doctor at R G Kar hospital.
Organised by Chhatrasamaj and Sangrami Joutha Mancha, the protestors argue that the state administration has failed to ensure the safety and security of women. The rally began from College Square and Santragachi, proceeding towards the state secretariat Nabanna.
To counter the demonstrators, the police set up barricades, emphasizing the lawful mandate prohibiting gatherings in the area. Sayan Lahiri, a spokesperson for Chhatrasamaj, stated the movement remains peaceful and apolitical, seeking justice for the victim and her family.
