Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday announced new safety measures for bus operations in the capital, including Aadhar-based duty allocations for drivers. Speaking at a press conference, Gahlot highlighted that 2,000 buses have been inducted over the last two years.

Gahlot emphasized the need to monitor bus performance and lane driving, as well as addressing recent accidents. He noted that some drivers have been taking on multiple duties, causing fatigue. "Delhi government buses cover a minimum of 200 km each day. After 8 hours, drivers must rest," he said. Gahlot explained that Aadhar-linked duty allocation will prevent double shifts, with software currently in development.

A biometric face recognition system will be installed at depots to further ensure compliance. "Depot managers will be held accountable for any complaints," Gahlot warned. He also stated that inefficient or unsafe drivers will be dismissed, and a unified database will prevent blacklisted drivers from switching depots.

Addressing the issue of alcohol consumption, Gahlot revealed plans to install breath analysers in every depot. "Drivers must pass this test before their duty. Medical check-ups will only occur in designated government hospitals," he added.
