Bangladesh's President Announces Interim Government Formation Amidst Political Turmoil

Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin declared on Monday that an interim government would be formed promptly following the dissolution of parliament.
During a meeting with political leaders and civil society representatives at Bangabhaban, Shahabuddin also ordered the release of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who was under house arrest after multiple convictions.
In a televised address later, Shahabuddin revealed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had submitted her resignation, which he accepted. The president emphasized immediate actions by the army to stabilize the nation and normalize the anarchic situation.
The interim government aims to conduct general elections swiftly. Shahabuddin also mandated the release of students arrested during ongoing protests, pledging compensation for victims' families and assistance for the injured.
Citizens were urged to maintain law and order and halt destructive activities. Shahabuddin directed the armed forces to protect lives, state assets, and ensure communal harmony. All public offices and courts are set to reopen on Tuesday.
As news of Hasina's departure spread, her residence was ransacked by protestors, highlighting the volatile situation. The army's media wing, ISPR, announced a curfew from midnight to 6:00 am on Tuesday, with army chief Wakar-Uz-Zaman scheduled to meet with student and teacher representatives soon.
