Suspension Recommended for Jeffrey Clark Over Election Subversion Attempts

A Washington legal panel has recommended the suspension of attorney Jeffrey Clark's law license for two years. Clark, a senior U.S. Justice Department official during Donald Trump's presidency, was found to have acted dishonestly in efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The three-member committee of the District of Columbia Board on Professional Responsibility stated that Clark acted with 'extraordinary recklessness' when he attempted to send a letter falsely claiming Justice Department concerns about election integrity. This recommendation will be reviewed by the full D.C. Board on Professional Responsibility and subsequently by a Washington appeals court.

Clark has denied violating attorney ethics rules, arguing that the ethics case improperly delved into confidential conversations between Justice Department officials and Trump. The recommendation stopped short of permanent disbarment, as sought by the D.C. Office of Disciplinary Counsel.
