Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi announced on Monday the arrest of 27 people in connection with a stone-pelting incident in Surat's Sayedpura area. He revealed that CCTV footage helped identify several suspects, with ongoing efforts to apprehend others involved.

"As promised, we apprehended the suspects before sunrise. A total of 27 arrests have been made so far, and further technical surveillance is in progress," Sanghvi conveyed in a social media post. Early in the morning, he visited the incident site to oversee the investigation and stressed that strict action would be taken against all perpetrators.

Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot provided more context, noting that the initial clash was triggered by children throwing stones at a Ganesh pandal. Police responded promptly, utilizing tear gas and lathi charges where necessary to control the situation. The police commissioner confirmed that around 1,000 officers are currently deployed to ensure peace in the area.
