Iran's Supreme Leader Mourns Hamas Leader Amid Rising Tensions with Israel

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, alongside other officials, prayed over the coffins of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and his bodyguard, victims of a shocking assassination blamed on Israel. The incident threatens to escalate into a full-scale regional conflict.

State television broadcasted the funeral services at Tehran University, including imagery of the coffins being transported towards Azadi Square with spectators throwing flowers. Haniyeh's remains are set to be transferred to Qatar for burial.

The assassination followed Haniyeh's presence at the inauguration of Iran's new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, who reaffirmed Iran's support for Palestinians. The airstrike, occurring hours after Haniyeh met Khamenei, has exacerbated tensions in an already volatile region.
