Eighteen Jharkhand BJP MLAs faced suspension from the assembly until 2 PM on August 2, having been escorted out by marshals following their refusal to vacate the House on Thursday.

Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto enacted the suspension after BJP members created disorder in protest against previous day's eviction of opposition MLAs by marshals and Chief Minister Hemant Soren's refusal to address their queries.

Opposition Leader Amar Bauri condemned the actions, alleging a prevailing dictatorship in Jharkhand. The BJP legislators had disrupted proceedings demanding Chief Minister Soren's resignation.

The altercation escalated to heated exchanges between ruling and opposition party members. Mahto's decision to suspend 18 BJP legislators came amid the chaos, leading to their forceful removal from the House by marshals.

Wednesday night saw several BJP MLAs spending the night in the assembly lobby, protesting Soren's refusal to answer questions on critical issues such as employment.

Speaker Mahto announced an Ethics Committee investigation, to report within a week. He adjourned the session until 12.30 PM.

BJP representatives decried the suspension outside the assembly, accusing the Speaker of undermining democracy under the JMM-led government. Bauri called the day's events a demonstration of government dictatorship, vowing to unseat the current administration.

As elections approach, the opposition BJP and AJSU MLAs' eviction and subsequent overnight protest signal escalating tensions in the state assembly.
