Lok Sabha MP Chandrashekhar on Saturday announced that his Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) will contest in the by-elections for 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. Chandrashekhar criticized the BJP-ruled state government for issues including unemployment, paper leaks, and poor law and order.
Although the bypoll dates are yet to be announced, opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party and Congress have declared a joint contest under the INDIA bloc. Meanwhile, the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has also started its preparations, according to party leaders.
Addressing a public meeting in Phulpur assembly constituency, Chandrashekhar emphasized the lack of proper representation for deprived sections in politics and called for increased participation. He also condemned the Uttar Pradesh government's actions, which he claims to promote religious discrimination. The Supreme Court has issued an interim stay against the state's directives targeting eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route.
