Virtual Roll Call: Democrats Gear Up for Historic Nomination Process

The Democratic Party is set to advance with a virtual roll call allowing delegates to select a presidential nominee ahead of next month's in-person convention in Chicago. Vice President Kamala Harris, now heavily favored, stands to benefit from President Joe Biden's decision to bow out of the race.

The convention rules committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday to finalize the procedure for the virtual roll call. A draft obtained indicates the process should be completed by August 7, although no specific start date was mentioned. Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison assured the nomination process would be both expeditious and equitable.

State delegations have shown overwhelming support for Harris following Biden's endorsement. Harris has already secured endorsements from key Democratic lawmakers, governors, and influential unions, positioning her strongly for the nomination. The roll call, a formality, will still occur in-person in Chicago on August 19.
