Congress Strategizes for Budget Session Amidst Political Competition

A Congress parliamentary group meeting chaired by CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is likely to be held on Monday to outline the strategy for the upcoming budget session, sources said. The meeting will take place at Sonia Gandhi's residence.

In the meantime, an all-party meeting is scheduled for 11:00 am today at the Main Committee Room, Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi. Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju will convene the meeting with floor leaders from political parties in both houses of Parliament, according to a press release from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi in Lok Sabha and Pramod Tiwari in Rajya Sabha will also attend Sunday's all-party meeting. The Budget Session of Parliament is set to commence on July 22 and might conclude on August 12, pending exigencies of Government Business.

Congress, which fought the election as part of the INDIA bloc, managed to prevent the BJP from securing a majority in Lok Sabha. The BJP-led NDA won 293 seats, while Congress significantly improved its standing, winning 99 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance secured 293 seats, but the INDIA bloc surpassed the 230 mark, providing stiff competition and defying predictions. (ANI)
