Union minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has called for a nationwide caste census but cautioned against making the figures public to avoid societal division. He stated that no discussion has occurred within the ruling NDA about simultaneous polls or the Uniform Civil Code, both from the BJP's manifesto.
In an interaction with PTI editors, Paswan expressed apprehensions about the UCC, stating he could not form an opinion until a draft was presented. His Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) strongly backs simultaneous polls, he noted.
Commenting on the UCC, Paswan emphasized India's diversity, questioning how different regional practices could be unified under one law. He highlighted the importance of a caste census for community-based development and judicial requirements but insisted the data remain confidential to prevent societal division.
Paswan confirmed his support for 'One Nation, One Election,' asserting his party's strong backing and awaiting the final draft for further discussion.
