Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has strongly condemned the racist backlash against Republican National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon's recital of the Sikh prayer 'ardas' during the Republican National Convention. The event saw delegates and officials, including presidential nominee Donald Trump, in attendance.

Following her prayer, Dhillon was targeted with social media trolling, largely from her party's own base. In a statement on Friday, Congressman Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat from Illinois, labeled the response as 'completely unacceptable' and emphasized the need for bipartisan condemnation of such discrimination.

'Discrimination on the basis of race or religion has no place in America,' he stated. Dhillon, who hails from a family of Sikh immigrants, expressed gratitude for America's religious freedom and sought divine guidance for the nation in her prayer.
