Garcetti praised India's increasing influence in global affairs, referencing its Navy's successful anti-piracy operations and its contributions to empowering the global south. He reiterated the United States' supportive stance toward any nation opposing unwarranted invasions that jeopardize international borders and incur civilian suffering.
During talks in Kolkata, Garcetti discussed the significance of border sovereignty in international relations. He clarified past misinterpretations of his comments on India's Northeast, stressing that domestic issues are for India to resolve, although the US remains ready to assist if requested, particularly in health and economic development sectors.
