Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will embark on a two-day visit to Bhutan starting this Friday, his inaugural trip abroad since ascending to the top diplomatic post.

In Thimphu, the Bhutanese capital, Misri is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Foreign Minister DN Dhungyel, and Foreign Secretary Pema Choden, among other notable officials.

This visit underscores the 'highest priority' the Indian government places on its 'Neighbourhood First' policy, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The MEA confirmed that Misri's official visit to Bhutan will span from July 19 to July 20, highlighting the significance of this journey in his new role.

During his stay, Misri will have an audience with His Majesty The King of Bhutan and will engage in talks with various high-level officials, including the prime minister, the foreign affairs and external trade minister, and other senior members of the Royal Government of Bhutan.

Additionally, the two foreign secretaries are slated to co-chair the India-Bhutan development cooperation talks, further emphasizing the longstanding tradition of high-level exchanges between the two nations.

According to MEA, this visit is a testament to the paramount importance the Indian administration assigns to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy.
