The Delhi High Court has raised concerns over the excessive allocation of seats at St. Stephen's College by Delhi University. The court noted that this not only places a strain on the limited infrastructure but also hampers the college's ability to provide quality education.
The court was hearing a plea from St. Stephen's College, which argued that the university had allocated more students than the sanctioned intake. While the university claimed this was to avoid vacant seats, the court found the argument insufficient.
A division bench, led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, moved up the next hearing to September 5 and instructed that six students granted provisional admission should not attend classes until the petition is resolved.
