Donald Trump's former leading rivals for the Republican presidential nomination, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, offered strong endorsements of his candidacy at the party's convention on Tuesday. This display of unity occurred three days after Trump survived an assassination attempt.

Haley, who had previously called Trump unelectable and unfit for office, urged her supporters to vote for him over Democratic President Joe Biden "for the sake of our nation." Despite receiving a mixed reaction of cheers and boos, she emphasized that one does not need to agree with Trump entirely to support him. DeSantis, warmly welcomed by the crowd, criticized Biden as too old for the job while Trump applauded from his box alongside his newly unveiled running mate, Senator J.D. Vance.

The show of harmony aimed to contrast with the Democratic Party's internal struggles regarding Biden's reelection bid. Many speeches in Milwaukee, focused on law and order, also featured Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric, denouncing Biden's border policies as national security threats. Prominent voices, including senators and Senate candidates, labeled the border situation an "invasion," while Trump pledged the largest deportation effort in U.S. history.
