Congress took strong objection on Tuesday to BJP leader Amit Malviya's remark that its leaders were assassinated for political decisions they made. It demanded that the BJP sack him and tender an apology to the people of India.

In a letter to BJP chief J P Nadda, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh called Malviya's remarks "deeply insensitive" and accused him of attempting to trivialize tragic historical events for political gain.

Ramesh urged the BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to unequivocally disavow Malviya's comments, labeling them a disrespectful and deplorable precedent for political discourse. During a TV debate, Malviya claimed Congress encouraged violence against PM Modi and sought to justify the assassination of former Congress leaders.
