Top EU officials will boycott informal meetings hosted by Hungary during its rotating EU presidency, following a series of controversial diplomatic engagements by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
This decision, confirmed by European Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer, stems from Orban's visits to countries like Ukraine, Russia, Azerbaijan, China, and the USA, which have stirred tensions with EU partners and challenged the bloc's united stance on Ukraine.
While senior civil servants will attend in place of high-ranking officials such as Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the move marks a significant diplomatic rift within the European Union.
