A growing number of Democratic Congress members are urging President Joe Biden to end his reelection bid following his unsteady debate performance against Republican rival Donald Trump. Concerned about Biden's ability to lead their party to victory, many lawmakers believe it's time for a new candidate.

Senator Peter Welch of Vermont publicly called for Biden to step aside, citing the nation's interests. Representative Jim Himes from Connecticut emphasized the significance of the 2024 election and questioned Biden's capability to challenge Trump's MAGA authoritarianism effectively.

Arizona's Representative Greg Stanton echoed the sentiment, as did other prominent Democrats, such as Representative Brad Schneider of Illinois and Representative Hillary Scholten of Michigan, who stressed the need for the strongest possible candidate. Representative Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and New York's Pat Ryan also voiced similar concerns. Moreover, Representative Mikie Sherrill from New Jersey and Washington state's Representative Adam Smith called for Biden to release his delegates to enable a new nominee. A growing consensus among Democrats indicates an urgent shift in leadership ahead of the 2024 elections.
