Jitendra Chaudhury, a prominent CPI(M) leader in Tripura, on Sunday urged Left parties, Congress, and other like-minded groups to join forces against the BJP for the upcoming panchayat elections in August.

Despite an electoral understanding between CPI(M) and Congress in last year's Assembly elections and the recent Lok Sabha polls, they were unable to defeat the BJP and its allies. Chaudhury noted ongoing discussions at local levels to ensure a strong contest in all seats, stating, 'The party with a stronger base in a particular area will contest the elections in those panchayats.'

Tripura Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha expressed support for local-level adjustments between Congress and Left parties. Additionally, Chaudhury announced that a delegation of Left parties would soon meet with the state election commission to demand fair and peaceful elections, advocating for online nomination submissions due to previous election issues.

Criticizing the BJP-led government's alleged anti-people policies, Chaudhury announced plans for a statewide agitation to raise awareness about the dire conditions in rural areas and the closure of schools. The protests are scheduled to take place on June 26 in Agartala.
