The government of Ghana has paid GH¢1.750 million to the families of seven Asawase youth who died in a shootout with the police at Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region in July last year.
As vowed by President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo in January this year, each family received a cheque of GH¢250,000. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development presented the cheques to all the families of deceased on behalf of the Ghanaian Head of State at a ceremony in Kumasi on March 7.
The seven deceased (who died in a shootout by police) were Abdul Hanan Bashir, Musah Seidu, Razak Sulley, Mohammed Kamal, Babonte Farar, Oliver Konlang and Mohammed Bashir Musah.
The killing of the seven was believed to be a revenge attack by the police for the death of their friend, a situation which sparked agitation among Zongo communities in the Kumasi metropolis, Graphic Online noted.
