Globally-acclaimed K-drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’ achieves another milestone in its popularity! A beach in Greece named Navagio (popularly known as Shipwreck Beach) is reportedly ranked first on the ‘World’s Top 50 Beaches’ list for 2018.
For the K-drama fans, this is obviously good news because Navagio Beach aka Shipwreck Beach was featured in 2016 TV drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’. The beach served as one of the backgrounds of flabbergasting romance between the main characters (played by Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo) in the fictional nation of Uruk (present-day Iraq).
A Canadian travel website FlightNetwork said that “Navagio Beach has accumulated huge popularity in recent years, but fails to mention that the most probable reason for the spike in visitors can be traced to its starring role in the hit 2016 K-drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’.” Reports claim that the list was compiled with the contribution and efforts of more than 1200 editors, reporters, bloggers and news agencies from around the globe.
Shipwreck Beach is only accessible by boat. It is an exposed cove, sometimes referred to as Smugglers Cove on the coast of Zakynthos in the Ionian Islands of Greece. FlightNetwork also highlights the speciality of this beach saying that swimming in these turquoise water while soaking in the breath-taking surroundings and milieu is undeniably a memory to cherish for entire life.
However, apart from this beach, which has become more popular for Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo-starring South Korean TV drama series, Elafonissi Beach (ranks 7th), Red Beach (ranks 12th), Loggas Beach (ranks 14th), Perissa, Santorini (ranks 20th), Sarakiniko, Milos (ranks 21st), St Paul’s Bay, Rhodes (ranks 28th) and Lalaria, Skiathos (ranks 31st) are all included in ‘Europe’s Top 50 Beaches’, as reported by GTP Headlines.
