In a heart-wrenching incident, a Colorado woman has been taken into custody following the tragic death of her mother, allegedly killed by a pack of dogs she owned. Jessica Hoff was arrested in connection with the death of her 76-year-old mother, LaVonne Hoff, who suffered from dementia and required constant care.
According to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred last February when Jessica left her mother alone in Colorado City to run errands. Authorities discovered LaVonne unconscious, surrounded by free-roaming dogs and several others kept in deplorable conditions along with caged birds.
Jessica, currently detained without formal charges, is awaiting a court appearance. While animal control has seized the animals, the case underlines serious animal welfare issues and the challenges faced by caregivers of vulnerable elders.
